(November 26, 2008) — The worldwide number one in free people search and reputation management has discovered that over 70% of parents are proactively trying to monitor and track their kids’ online activity in order to try and protect them from cyber bullying, paedophiles and giving away personal information that could put them at risk.
The global leader in free people search and reputation management has today revealed research that shows 72% of UK parents proactively monitor and try to track what their children are saying and doing online. yasni.co.uk who recently launched a UK division of its business, enables people to type any name into its search facility and it will scour the deep web; immediately presenting any information about that person on the site for the user to review. The company was able to identify that parents trying to monitor their kid’s activity online is a growing trend across the globe and decided to get a better understanding of how many parents in the UK are attempting to see what their kids write about themselves online and who they are talking to.
The research revealed that out of those parents who said they did monitor their child’s online activity, 56% said that they did so because they were worried that the publicly available information their children had written about themselves on social networking sites could lead to their full name, contact details and address being readily available and leaving them vulnerable to identity theft. 14% of parents track and monitor their child’s activity because they have concerns about their safety, in terms of meeting undesirable people on the web, 13% said they monitored usage and what is being written to ensure their child was not a victim of the growing trend of cyber bullying and 11% of parents did so to check for any personal information their child had written that could give them an insight into their state of happiness or well-being.
The company put forward that the increase in parental searches has come because of high profile cases of kids and teenagers being involved in forms of cyber-bullying, and the multiple suicides in South Wales. Speaking about the rising trend of parents monitoring their children’s online activity Steffen Ruehl, CEO and Co-founder of yasni.co.uk said, “There is no doubt that there is a huge increase in parents monitoring their children’s online activity in the UK as parents become increasingly wary of the information their kids are putting on the web.
“Our site can help parents to quickly and efficiently monitor what their kids are saying online, and where necessary, take action to prevent anything untoward happening via the internet”.
yasni also offers an Email Alert System; sending users a regular automated update for a name of their choice; empowering parents to follow their children’s online activity and receive any new information without having to continuously search for their child’s name. yasni users or “yasnians” can also check up on their partners, research employers or job applicants and find long-lost friends, lovers or relatives. The system is fun, free and easy to use; requiring very little technical ability or understanding.
